Why I do what I do...
As a professional who has worked in the IT industry for over 25 years, I have seen the industry change out of all recognition. In the early 1980's when IBM came out with the PC, could we have really considered the rapid evolution that we have today, and can we really predict where we will be in the future.
I reflect on many fun and interesting occurences during my various roles:
- I remember working in IT Support for WordPerfect, dealing with faulty 5 1/4" disks, which when returned for checking were stapled to a compliment slip.
- I also remember the early days of networking where the protocol was IPX, and talking about a billion node network, with everything connected. Back then it sounded unreal, today its a reality.
- Learning about ink technology for printing, and the development of an ink jet printer that ran faster than a laser
- I also recall the conversations in the world of printing systems, yes it was our technology that was revolutionising Murdoch's empire in Wapping, and yet now those systems are seen as dated
It's interesting out there, and we continue to evolve and learm, but I have picked up many experiences over the years, and now is the time to share.
I have been "indirectly" selling my employees products, services and solutions every day since I started work back in 1983, espousing the great advancements in technology, I continue to do that to this day in a direct sales function, and believe I can do that for you. Sales
I have witnessed the good that effective marketing can have, I'd like to share my experiences with you. Be that dealing with the media, being creative, taking technical messages and making them relevant to businesses. Marketing
As for public speaking, I have been fortunate to do that throughout my career and I love it, and importantly people tell me I'm good at it. Best events 1) speaking to over 1,000 executive secretaries at the Creme de la Creme show in the early 1990's, and 2) presented on behalf of one of my employees to defend a position with regard to the rights of ISV's in the Open Source debate in Brussels. Finally, I just enjoy working with computers and software, and realising the great benefits that we can all have, being able to communicate with friends and family around the world is one example. I am comfortable with computers and helping others to do the same is something I enjoy. Help
